IT HAS BEEN A WHILE ( oh and this is not about food, again )
There is this expression, “it’s just been one of those days” ever heard it? I bet you have, especially if you work a 9-5 or know someone who does. It is also a statement we make when we believe and feel that things may not work out the way that we thought or had planned.
I truly believed that this past twelve months was not only going to be, “one of those days” but could possibly turn into “one of those years”. I don’t wanna sound redundant or be the ever clanging cymbal on subject but this last year I made a massive decision, this decision for sure did not come lightly and I thought with my whole self was going to be a “deal breaker” for me.
You see we look to ourselves for help, we look inward for all the will power we need, “you can do it”, “yes we can” and as you know there are a billion other phrases for self-help and discovery. If I have learned anything it’s this: we cannot “do” it all, we don’t “have” it under control, and the beauty of it is, we don’t have to.
1 Peter 5:7 says: ” Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you”. Man, this one is hard for us isn’t it? It’s hard to swallow that there is a God out there and in control of our future and our destiny and he has it all figured out if we just say, “yes”
Saying yes is a whole other thing isn’t it? We live in a skeptical world, we live in a busy, out for me, myself and I world don’t we? I truly believe that saying “yes” to God and “yes to serving others is the key. There are still a billion questions are there not? A billion questions that I can’t answer, a billion questions that no one can but I truly believe God has a plan and purpose for you and for me no matter what the situation (Jeremiah 29:11)
I feel that part of saying that you are willing to say yes and willing to make a change starts with helping others. No, I’m not introducing a sales pitch, but I want to tell you a story:
A few months ago my wife, manager and I had the privilege to go to Haiti for a few days, we were shooting a video and also documentary on what a wonderful organization called Samaritans Purse is doin down there. We saw everything you can imagine, the devastation, the hurt, the realization that in 45 seconds an already oppressed people lost everything. These things are hard to understand, hard to grasp and even harder to explain, however in the midst of all this, there is hope, there is purpose, there is faith.
We met a man named Isiah that literally went into the city center after the massive earthquake and began simply looking for ways to help, selfless man that he is he found 15 orphans looking for their parents and he took them in on own dime creating the Jesus Name Orphanage and his own time and is still caring for them today. However there are needs, modern plumbing is not an option, meaning toilets have to be dug in the ground (this is called a latrine) when this “toilet” fills up there is a massive sanitation issue as you can imagine. The latrine at the orphanage is full, and it is causing massive problems.
I believe that part (a massive part) of us trusting God and us “letting go of the reigns” and believing he is in control and our bad days will “pan-out” and that he has a plan is simply helping other people.
Would you step out today? Would you believe in faith that we all can help this man in Haiti build a simple toilet for his orphans?
