    Recap

After two hours of sleep preceding a hometown show, a sleepy wretch I drive twenty miles with a buddy to participate in the Times Turkey Trot. This thing I speak of is a 5k race that has been happening in my hometown for three decades. I love to run and have been doing it for a long while, but just started competing last year. I’ve lived in Clearwater Florida my whole life and have never seen this race. I was blown away at how many people were there, it seemed soooo many people have made this there tradition on turkey day.

There are soo many stories as to what the setlers are that day. Some people talk about corn based dishes and turkey (which we obviously eat here today) but what if that wasn’t what they ate? What if they ate steak and potaoes? What if they ate celery sticks dipped in duck fat?

I’m interested in your traditions and recipes. Tweet em to me! We will post some up.

My uncle Jerry has a huge old propane tank cut in half with a welded hing on it, and every year makes an amazing succulent, just-e-Nuff seasoning turkey. Is this a properly, roasted, culinarily intact bird. Heck no. Is it important to me. Yes. The reason is because it grabs my heartstrings. I wake up thanksgiving every year thinking of my mothers casseroles and perfectly, lovingly made southern dishes that I have literally eaten every winter of my whole life.

This is why thanksgiving is so important to so many of us, tradition. What’s yours?
